For use with a Ball Probe

This tool is designed for use with a ball probe. Use the Toggle LASER button to turn off the scanner if it is active.

Bend Plane XYZ Orientation for FRONT and BACK Straights

The direction of the XYZ axes are formed based on which straight you are viewing.

  • There are two possible viewpoints. Either the operator is looking down the front straight or the back straight.
  • Which straight the operator chooses determines the direction of the X, Y, and Z axes in the Tool interface.

Locate Real Time Positions Around a Bend Plane

With the Bend Plane Clock Tool, VTube-LASER shows real time positions relative to any bend plane.

For example, you can locate the the intersection, tangent point, or midpoint in a Z axis normal the end straight.

In this image, the probe center is 17.1789 mm closer to the user along the centerline from the midpoint of the front straight. In this image orientation for the front straight , the Z axis moves toward the user out of the screen.

Visualize the distances like this:

Front and Back Angles

This images show an example FRONT angle of 114.0677 degrees.

The angle is formed from the center of the ball to the centerline. The shaft angle of the ball probe does not affect the angle.

Measure Wall Thickness

It is also possible to measure the wall thickness with the Wall tab menu.

Before pressing the acquisition button, press the appropriate Acquire radio button. Two values are measured per straight.

1. Measure the whole tube to get the current orientation. Do not move the tube after it has been measured.
2. Enter the Bend Plane Clocking tool
3. Set the Source to Measured Tube.
4. Set the Bend to Bend 1.
5. Change to the Wall tab on the right side of the tool.
6. Click on “Acquire” for the Outer Wall (the first radio button checked in Front Straight)
7. Take one point with the ball probe on the outside of the diameter. Take one point with the ball probe on the inside of the diameter. Once both points have been taken, the wall thickness will be calculated and can be copied to setup (part setup)

LOG Report Output

The Bend Plane Clock Tool LOG can be output in a report.
