VTube 4.5 Build 1974 - September 29, 2026

1 - New: Interpolated Bend Elongation Library

You can now save Interpolated Bend Elongation setups in a library and reuse them in any project, instead of re-entering the Angle / Elongation datapoints every time.

Each library entry has a name and its own list of Angle / Elongation data points. The library window shows your entries at the top. Select an entry to see its datapoints below.

Building and editing the library (System Options)

  • In System Options, click Edit Interpolated Elongation Setup Library.
  • Right-click either grid to add, insert, or delete rows. You can also clear the whole library.
  • Every change is saved automatically to the VTube configuration folder. There's no Save button.
  • Export the library to an XML file to back it up or share it with another VTube computer.
  • Import a library XML file. If your library already has entries, VTube asks whether to Replace them or Append the imported entries.

Using a library entry in a part (Elongation Setup)

  • In the Elongation Setup window, click Get New Setup from Interpolated Setup Library.
  • Select an entry, then click TO Part Setup, or double-click the entry.
  • VTube copies the entry's name and datapoints into Part Setup and switches the elongation calculation to Interpolated.
  • To reverse the transfer, click Undo in the Elongation Setup window.
  • The library opens read-only from here, so it can't be changed by accident.
  • If Part Setup is protected by UAC, VTube asks for your UAC password before opening the library.

New: Linear Units Button on Two Windows

The Interpolated Bend Elongation Library and the Valid Tube and Pipe Size Selection Table now each have a units button (M / I) for switching between millimeters and inches.

  • The button starts in your current units.
  • Changing units here also updates the VTube window you opened it from, so the whole program stays in the same units.

2 - Improved: Window Positioning on Multiple Monitors

  • Windows that open centered now appear centered on the same monitor as the VTube window that opened them. Before, they could open on the wrong monitor.
  • Fixed: some windows, including Elongation Setup, opened near the left edge of the screen the first time and only centered correctly on later opens. They now open centered every time.

3 - Improved: Startup

  • The Interpolated Bend Elongation Library window is now created only when you first open it, rather than at startup in order to save memory.

VTube 4.5 Build 1973 - September 28, 2026

1 - New - Super Accurate Interpolated Bend Elongation

VTube can now calculate tube elongation from an unlimited list of bend angles and corresponding elongation distances.

This is the most precise elongation engine to date because it uses measured data from your process to interpolate elongation using multiple data points.  (You can add as many data points as you want.)

The three elongation methods

VTube uses elongation to calculate the cut length in Part Setup and to position straights during unbending. You choose one method at a time.

Method How it works Best for
Simple % One elongation percentage is applied to every bend. Tubes where every bend elongates about the same.
Multi – Unique Per Bend A separate elongation percentage for each bend. Increased accuracy where you know the elongation for each bend angle in the part.
Interpolated A table of elongation distances by bend angle. VTube looks up the value for each bend's angle, and interpolates to values in between the bend angles.  This is the most accurate elongation calculator because it interpolates between angles.

Opening the Elongation Setup Window

In Part Setup, click the Tube Elongation row. The Elongation Setup window opens on the tab for the method that's currently in use.

The window has three tabs: Simple %, Multiple %, and Interpolated Distances. Each tab has a checkbox to turn that method on. Only one method can be active, so checking one clears the others.

Each tab has a Help button that explains the method. You can print or copy the help text.

Using the New Interpolated Table

Each row of the table gives an elongation distance for a bend angle.

Column What to enter
Row The row number (filled in automatically).
Angle The bend angle in degrees.
Elong Dis The elongation measured for a bend of that angle.
Unit The current unit, in or mm. (This column is grey because it can't be edited.)

Setup Name: give the table setup a name that identifies it, such as the material, diameter, or bender it was bent on.

Editing buttons, also available by right-clicking the table:

  • Add adds a row at the bottom.
  • Insert adds a row above the selected row.
  • Up / Down move the selected row.
  • Delete removes the selected row. The table always keeps at least one row.
  • Undo reverses the last change.

Units button: switches between inches and millimeters. The table updates to the new units, and the main VTube window also uses the new units when you close Elongation Setup.

How VTube uses the Table Data

  • Between two rows or data points, VTube calculates data through interpolation between two known angle/elongation points.
    Example: 45° = 0.020 and 90° = 0.040, so a 60° bend uses 0.027.
  • Below the lowest or above the highest angle: VTube continues the slope of the nearest two rows.
For best results, include rows covering the smallest and largest bend angles in your parts.
  • If one row only: that elongation is used for every bend, making it like the Simple % method.
  • Row order doesn't matter: VTube sorts the rows by angle before calculating. (Just avoid entering the same angle twice.)

Automatic cut length

If Automatic Calc Cut Length Type is on, VTube recalculates the cut length when you close the Elongation Setup window. The new cut length appears in Part Setup right away.

When it's set to AutoCalc ON + Elong Comp, the message at the top of the 3D view shows which elongation method was used:

  • CUT LENGTH recalculated with Elongation Compensation (Simple 3%)
  • CUT LENGTH recalculated with Elongation Compensation (Multi – Unique Per Bend)
  • CUT LENGTH recalculated with Elongation Compensation (Interpolated)

Part Setup Menu

The Tube Elongation row in Part Setup shows the active method at a glance:

  • Simple 3%
  • Multi – Unique Per Bend
  • Interpolated – 1" OD – Data Points: 5, which shows the setup name and number of rows. It shows [Unnamed] if no name is set.

New Report Token

A new report token shows the active elongation method, using the same text as Part Setup:

<vtube_val>tubeelongationcalctype</vtube_val>

User Access Control

If User Access Control protects Part Setup, changes in the Elongation Setup window need the same access level as Part Setup. That covers the method, the percentage, the table rows, and the setup name.

2 - Faster, more responsive HEXAGON laser scanning

This VTube release improves the way VTube receives data from HEXAGON (ROMER) arms via the RDS software.

What's better:

  • More scan data. VTube now captures every laser stripe the scanner sends, up to about 150 per second, where earlier versions kept only about 25% of them. This means your HEXAGON scans will capture four times more detail in each pass, with no performance lag.

  • Smoother live display. The position readout (DRO) keeps up with the arm while you scan.

  • The scanning sound stops when you release the button. On some older or slower PCs, the sound could keep playing after the button was released. VTube no longer falls behind, so the sound stops right away.

  • No lag build-up. If your PC is briefly busy, VTube catches up on its own instead of falling further behind.

What you need to do: nothing, for new installations. The improvement is on by default.

If you're updating an existing installation, the improvement turns on automatically. However, an older setting on your PC may still limit how many stripes VTube keeps during scanning. After the update to this build, we recommend changing the “Milliseconds Between Stripes Scanning - HEXAGON Arm” to a value of zero.  Follow these steps:

Caution

This change should only be implemented if you know your computer is a high-performance system.  Underpowered computers may exhibit lag during scanning because they cannot keep up with the RDS scan rate.

How to set Milliseconds Between Stripes Scanning to 0

  1. Close VTube. This matters: VTube rewrites the settings file when it closes, so it would undo changes made while it's running.
  2. Open File Explorer and go to:
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\VTube\config
  3. Right-click vtube local settings.cfg and open it with Notepad.
  4. Find the [Measuring Device] section, then find this line:
Milliseconds Between Stripes Scanning - HEXAGON Arm=10

  1. Change the number to 0:
Milliseconds Between Stripes Scanning - HEXAGON Arm=0

  1. Save the file (File > Save) and close Notepad.
  2. Start VTube and connect to the arm as usual.
  3. Run scan tests to be sure your computer handles scanning well. There should be no lag in performance.

Note: Don't change the similar line that says Idle (Milliseconds Between Stripes Idle - HEXAGON Arm). Leave it at 100.

For Non-HEXAGON Systems

There are similar settings for other types of measuring systems.  Do not change any of those settings.

For a detailed description of how this algorithm works and is diagnosed, see RDS Threaded Receiver.

3 - A New Version of the NMAPI Server for Metronor and Nikon

This version adds a newer, more powerful server for use with NIKON and LK Metrology scanners in the Metronor M-Scan 120 and Freedom arms.

VTube 4.5 Build 1972 - September 24, 2026

1 - New Leapfrog Capabilities: SPACE OBJECTS, ASSEMBLY Tubes, Measured Tube are Included in Leapfrogs

After a leapfrog, the code that re-orients real-time measured data now also moves these objects.

Which objects can move during leapfrogs

  • Space Objects - Measured - Untransformed (This can be enabled or disabled.)
  • Space Objects - Measured - Transformed  (This can be enabled or disabled. It is disabled by default.)
  • Space Objects - Dimensions (This can be enabled or disabled.)
  • Real-time data just scanned before the leap (This always happens.)
  • The existing measured tube data in the current tube (This always happens)
  • Measured tubes in other assembly parts (This can be enabled or disabled.)

Why Prismatic Space Objects Move During a Leapfrog

A Leapfrog lets you move the measuring arm to a new location so you can reach parts of a large tube or assembly that are out of range from the first position. Everything the arm measures is recorded relative to where the arm is sitting. When the arm moves, VTube works out exactly how far it moved and turned, then shifts the earlier measurements by the same amount so old and new data line up in one common coordinate system.

Measured Space Objects are recorded the same way as measured tube data, relative to the arm. If they were left behind during a leap, they would still be positioned for the arm's old location, while everything measured afterward would be positioned for the new one. The Space Objects would appear shifted away from the tube, and any dimensions or checks comparing the tube to those objects (such as distances to a mounting bracket or a fixture plane) would be wrong. Moving them with the leap keeps them where they physically belong relative to the tube.

What doesn't need to move during a leapfrog?

Any nominal data for either tubes or space objects comes from the design rather than from the arm, so the arm's position has no effect on them. VTube-LASER does not offer to move them.

Also, the Space Objects set to "Align this Space Object" to the master tube (in the Space Objects menu) will eventually be converted to align with the master coordinate system, so they no longer depend on the arm's position, either, just like the aligned tube.  This is why “Leap Transformed Measured Space Objects” is set to DISABLED by default during the leapfrog process. However, if you want to, you can override this and ENABLE the transformation of these too.

2 - VTube gives you control over which Space Objects are carried along when you perform a Leapfrog move.

Three new options let you decide which data to transform in leapfrogs:

Option Default What it does
Leap untransformed measured space objects On Moves measured space objects that have not been transformed
Leap transformed measured space objects Off Moves measured space objects that have been transformed
Leap measured assembly tubes On Moves the measured centerlines of the other tubes in the assembly

Nominal data is never moved during a leap, regardless of these settings.

Where to find the options

The options appear in two places, and they always stay in sync:

  • Measure Setup, Leapfrog settings: three new checkboxes at the bottom of the list. Each has green help text you can click for an explanation of what the option does.

  • Leap Process window: the same three checkboxes, so you can adjust them while leaping. Changing them here requires the same access permission as changing them in Measure Setup.

Changes made in either place can be undone and are shared across the assembly.

3 - New Project File Structure Stores the New Switches Above

Projects saved with this version use a new file format (version 222), which older versions of VTube cannot open. If you need to share a project with someone using an older version, use Save As and choose the previous format (VTP 0221).
