The Threshold Angle How to Determine The Best Shallow Bend Threshold Value

By default, the shallow bend process is OFF because it is an unexpected workflow for customers who are used to using older versions of VTube-LASER.

We let you choose whether you want an active shallow bend process because the angle at which it becomes useful depends on variables unique to each customer.

The Threshold Angle

This value is called the "shallow bend threshold angle."

The best threshold angle value depends on the anticipated accuracy of the process, which depends on the combined accuracy of the system and the material being measured. The typical range is 5 to 10 degrees.

Test the threshold angle for your application by finding where VTube-LASER varies more in intersection point placement than the user visually marking the spot with the shallow bend process.

How to Determine The Best Shallow Bend Threshold Value

  1. Bend a test part with a shallow bend.
  2. Reverse-engineer the part.
  3. Measure it again, align the part to the reversed-engineered nominal, and then compare the intersection point repeatability to the previous measure.
  4. Activate the shallow bend option, then go back to step 1 (reverse engineer) and repeat the process to compare the repeatability with shallow bend handling.

Based on the comparison results, you can then choose the shallow bend threshold angle that is appropriate for your application.
